"Incredibly enriching experience with Bongi and the boys. Felt really good to be part of such a wonderful project, and would recommend it to anyone with a sense of adventure, love for sports and a creative spirit."
"Thank you Bongi for such a nice experience. I will never forget this group of kids. They are awesome and I am sure that they will have a nice future mainly because of this project that you are developing. It was so sad to say goodbye to the boys. You also took a lot of care of us all the time. Even we were not lucky with the weather you did your best to make it super. Thanks and all the best for the kids, for you and for surfpop."
"Being part of the Surfpop family was one of the best things in my life. The project is a perfect combination of doing volunteering work and seeing the beautiful country of South Africa. The boys all have big dreams and Surfpop helps to fullfill them. Muizenberg is a really nice place to surf and where you will meet some amazing people. After three weeks it was really hard for me to say goodbye, but I knew I made memories for life. Thank you Surfpop."
"In February 2017 I was lucky enough to be able to spend some time with Surfpop. It was my first time doing volunteer work abroad and it couldn’t be any better. Even though teaching the kids how to surf is the main goal of Surfpop, it’s not the only thing they do. Two afternoons each weeks we would do some homework or games with the kids in the classroom. Spending time with the children and young adults was so much fun. As Surfpop is a small organisation that sets value on a familiar atmosphere it’s not hard to feel very welcome from day one on. Daniel organised many trips around Cape Town to show us this beautiful area. During this time I met so many great people, received an impression of a complete different culture and could of course improve my own surfing skills thanks to the surf lessons. I was just an amazing time."
"Being part of the change of Surfpop children’s lives was an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend this project to anyone who likes kids and the ocean. The program had such a positive impact on my life and I would love to go back there one day. I had so much fun spending time with the kids and also learning how to surf and exploring so many beautiful (not touristy) spots of Cape Town. The kids reminded me that you don’t need a lot to be happy… and seeing a smile on their faces when we spent time together made myself unbelievably happy - it gave me the feeling of being (even if only a small) part of their change. The project is very well organized and you feel that for Daniel, it is all about the children's welfare and that's why he also looks well after his volunteers. Thank you so much Surfpop for this unique experience, which I will never forget!"
''Volunteering with Surfpop is an experience that will without any doubt last with you a lifetime. I had three amazing weeks, full of laughing, seeing the most breathtaking places and learning how to surf with the most funny and charismatic boys. I got up every morning with a smile on my face. Knowing that I would first have an productive surf lesson with probably Muizenberg’s best surfer and then to seeing the boys, super stoked on surfing, improving on the board. After three fantastic weeks with surf pop it quite clear to see where the boys joy comes from. Bongi, The director of the program, puts his whole soul into this project and the wellbeing of these boys. Im just grateful to have been a little part of it all.''
“To sum up, I can say that I spent awesome six weeks in Muiznberg with Daniel and the boys and I really don’t regret anything about my stay in Muiznberg. I had a great time, made some cool new friends and Daniel made it possible for me to discover Capetown and its beautiful places. I can recommend the Surfpop Volunteering Program in good conscience to anyone who is sporty, flexible and enthusiastic about surfing, making a change and wants to help Surfpop to develop. Keep the surf up! 😊”
“I'm Johannes and I'm from Austria. I joined Surfpop for two months. Those two months were all in all one of my best times ever! I learned to surf, got a lot of new friends from everywhere and enjoyed that amazing vibe, which is surrounding you every second! But the most important and enjoyable part of my journey was the work with our Surfpop-kids. These kids are full of energy and good feelings! Everytime! I loved to go for a surf with them, go skating or just playing soccer on the street with them! I'm really happy that I was working, laughing and enjoying with Bongi and the kids! It was definitely worth it. Being part of that big Surfpop-family is simply wonderful! I got a lot of unforgetable memories and I'm really looking forward to seeing all of them again.”
“Thanks again for encourage, motivate and teach not all to the kids, to the volunteers also, (with you I learn a lot of surf), for correct errors, for be concerned with kids and volunteers and do anything for us be comfortable and feeling happy. You are pure energy, you always stay happy and you transmit it! Never doubt to Surfpop, because is a really good project and the important thing is feel like and believe in it, and you have the two things. If you believe in it, they believe in it, GOOOO! I never forget you favourite sentence: YES, YOU CAN! Thanks South Africa also, A LOT OF HUGS!”
"Surfpop was the best decision for me. I made great experience which I will never forget! This trip to Cape Town changed my life. And I’ve never thought that I will be in touch with some of the kids and that weeks after my work in this fantastic project. Each time, I look forward to when I get a message from them."
"I made some really good friends in Muizenberg and one day I will be back for sure. Hopefully the boys had as much fun as I had! Wishing the boys and Surfpop all the best for the future. I'm really thankful that I was part of the big family."
